It’s a Harry Potter weekend of magic. In honor of this designation for an otherwise dull weekend in November, Words to Bumble is bringing our fair readers lists of amazing moments from the past six Potter films—because reliving the magic is what it’s all about.
We commence with the top three most amazetastic moments brought to us by Alan Rickman’s Professor Snape.
3. Snape subs in for Defense Against the Dark Arts in Prisoner of Azkaban hoping to de-veil Professor Lupin as a werewolf. As he sweeps into the room to give a slide show presentation on the subject, he—looking ever like a great bat swooping by—magically slams all the shutters in the classroom. It’s quite an entrance.
2. Towards the end of Order of the Phoenix, when Harry and the gang have been discovered/captured in Umbridge’s office and are in the process of being interrogated, Umbridge summons Snape hoping to force confessions by the use of Veritaserum. Regrettably, Snape’s supply has already been decimated by her crazy evilness, so he states that he cannot help her, “Unless you wish to poison [Harry]—and I assure you I would have the greatest sympathy if you did.”
Snape then claims to have “no idea” what Harry is trying to convey to him in code about “Padfoot,” and—as usual—sweeps out the door.
This moment saw the genesis of the declaration that Snape is so good, but so bad. In so many ways and on so many levels.
1. And the number one Snape moment? Umbridge’s “teacher inspection” of Snape during her coup of Hogwarts (which, P.S. is “Poulard” in French).
“You applied first for the Defense Against the Dark Arts post, is that correct?”
“Yes.”
“But you were unsuccessful?”
“Obviously.”
He’s just so scathing. It’s fantastic. Dear Alan Rickman, are you secretly actually Severus Snape?
He proceeds to take out his anger by smacking Ron in the back of the head with a book.
/And yes I do know this would be better with video clips. So here is a montage I found that highlights these and other magical Snape moments.
