It has been a long time since the world was rocked (yes, rocked) by the Nancy Kerrigan/ Tonya Harding fiasco just prior to the 1994 winter Olympics (I was already upset that Kristi Yamaguchi would not be competing and then that mayhem went down and I must say, it was harsh for a little girl in love with the Olympics and figure skating to have to watch, just sayin’).
Well prepare to be shocked, because at 3:06pm Universal Sports tweeted the link to a story breaking the news that Nancy Kerrigan’s brother Mark Kerrigan (who was indicted for the crime in January) has been charged with manslaughter in the death of their 70 year-old father, Daniel Kerrigan. Apparently they got into a dispute in January and the younger Kerrigan grabbed the elder by the neck with enough force to cause a fracture and damage to his windpipe.
Yikes for the Kerrigans again. Also let us take a moment to note that Universal Sports is broadcasting this story under the tag “Figure Skating”. Meanwhile, the story barely mentions Nancy aside from a brief explanation that this is her family we are talking about. Weird and awkward. Thanks Universal Sports.
